One important difference between the Heavy Bowie and the BK9 is the handle girth. The Heavy Bowie handle has a greater circumference so if you have larger hands maybe it's the better option.
Trail is NC mountains (1 night stays). Looking to do chopping and botoning. I will not have a hatchet but will have a folder saw.

Anyone have direct experience with the Ontario SP gen 2 line of choppers?
Yes, I just bought the Gen 2 SP50 from www.chestnutridgeknifeshop.com - a BF member dealer. It's a full flat grind and the thickness is 1/4" - a little thicker than the Kabar Heavy Bowie and even more so compared to the BK9.
The sheath is similar to the BK9. Nylon with plastic insert. The velcro retention strap is bad though - it's sized incorrectly. Anyway, that's not a huge deal for me.
The blade shape and proportions are very nice. My favorite of the 3 mentioned. It came with a thin, sharp edge.
I took it on a backpacking trip the day after I got it. I used it with a folding saw to clear the trail. It worked well. The handle is shorter but the circumference is about the same as the Kabar. The kraton handle abraded my skin after a lot of swinging.
