Hi all!

My trust 4 oz Ka-Bar honing oil which I bought nearly a decade ago with my Ka-Bar knife and Ka-Bar Arkansas oil stone honing stone is running low. I wonder what oil would you recomend me to use with fine grade oilstone? Lansky's Natural honing oil 4 Oz seems quite good.

I've just got very good and hair splitting result with Ka-Bar oil and Ka-Bar stone but oil is unavailable, not in here nor in eBay... So I need new, something that works with oilstone.

Heavy mineral oil -- the kind sold in pharmacy departments as a laxative -- works well and is non-toxic. Your Ka-Bar honing oil is probably just mineral oil, or mostly mineral oil. If you want something lighter (less viscous) you can use kerosene, lamp oil, or even WD-40. And you can mix mineral oil with kerosene or lamp oil to get just the consistency you like.

A lot of things will work ... just don't use something like a vegetable oil, which will become rancid and gum up your stone.

I just got some paraffin oil (i.e. Mineral oil ) from pharmacy for my wooden handles and new wooden cutboard. I might try using that... Thank you for your input so far.
