Hello All,
I love military knives like KaBar and Ontario and have collected a few over the years. I always go back to the Kabar 1220 (Well, any Kabar regardless if it's stamped USMC or Army, etc)
It's perfect because its durable and stays sharp, and not to mention it's history. I have been looking at the straight-edged in D2. Does anybody have experience with this knife? It seems pretty cool and I do Love D2 steel.

I have used a Kabar D2 Extreme in the woods on and off for over 5 years; i found it to be a great all around knife.Ive cut tons of branches to keep an atv trail from getting overgrown, ive also chopped small stumps to ground level in the same trail, have done alot of wood cutting and small walking trail clearing with it too.I highly recommend it. I did trim off the belt loop part of the sheath and added a tek lok so it rides a bit higher.

That's great. I know Kabars are great knives and I love D2 steel. I've never had the D2 version and it is a bit pricey here in Canada but the Kabar Extreme and the Cold Steel Recon Tanto in San Mai are about the same price so I'm sorta stuck between the two!

The one thing I don't like about Kabar Hard sheaths is that (in my experience) they tend to slightly dull the blade near the clip point. Would be great if they gave the option of getting it in a leather sheath.

Replacement leather KA-BAR sheaths are sometimes found very inexpensively I use them as beaters for other knives

That's a great idea. I think I'll go with that. Every knife place here in Canada where I order my knives from, are all out of Bk9's which was originally my first pick so then I saw the kabar & the Cold steel but Because I love Kabar, I'm going to go wit the D2 version. Someone is buying all the BK9 Beckers up here!

Its a great knife very underrated, it sharpens up great holds an edge . Had no problem w sheath dulling the blade . I got a chainsaw pinched in a huge branch i used this to chop away enough of the huge branch to free the saw .And it can be put in the sheath either way .

Ask Goldie. I was commenting that his knife was a beast. I've yet to own one.

Om 23002, I bought our son a shiny "21st Century" Ka-Bar and presented it to him when he was sworn in as a Marine 2nd Lt the day he graduated from Texas A&M.

When his unit deployed to Iraq in 2004, he left that knife at home and packed two other knives I had given him; a Randall #16-1 along with a Chris Reeve Green Beret. Both were housed in third party "jump qualified" combat sheaths.

that reads like a zipcode? 23002? ya saying 02/30/02?

Got d2 extreme I got used then let my teenage son use it who chipped the edge in a couple spots then I removed the serrations. I'd never worked d2 before and was way harder than my other 1095crovan blades. Overall its a bit harder to sharpen but if you want one get it you'll like it.
