Ka-bar John EK 44 vs 43 partially sharpened?

Does anybody know why the Ka-bar John EK43 has a partially sharpened edge, compared to the EK44 which has both sides fully sharpened.
Both have the same dagger blade shape , thickness etc. except for the edge.
I have seen this in other dagger type of blades as well.
The M3 bayonet and the M3 trench knife have this partial sharpened edge also.

I'm curious on what the purpose is of this...

I would not think that you will put your thumb or finger on the unsharpened part .
It's not the type of knife for that.

Some locales do not allow double edged knives. Maybe it's a way to offer the knife in those areas.
 
Yes, that is a good possibility.
I can't figure out why else.
There are more of these bayonets partially sharpened.
For purely stabbing, fighting tasks, the two full edges are always better I would say..

That is correct. Legal concerns in certain areas are the biggest contributing factor to the the difference between the two.
