I just received it today and I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised..
I paid 68us$ for it and since I live in Japan, where imports tend to be rather expensive, I think it was a great buy
It came hair popping sharp right out of the box, so no complaints there...
I just had to see how good a chopper it was, and as luck would have it, I had a nice supply of 2" green bamboo....
It didn't faze it one bit, while I have to say that my technique sucks, the knife didn't, it made short process of the bamboo.
After that little exercise, I was actually a bit surprised to see no damage what so ever to the edge and while it did dull a little bit, it could still shave hair!
Stabbing the tip into a 2x4 posed no problems either, it tore big chunks out of the wood, but the tip showed no damage at all.
The coating didn't show any "real" wear, while you could tell which part of the blade I had used, it was just the sap from the bamboo.
No doubt that in due time the coating will wear off..how much though remains to be seen.
Ergonomics too are (at least for me) great, while it is a beefy blade, it doesn't feel too heavy or awkward in the hand.
Some maybe, would like a more tip heavy blade, for greater chopping abilities, but personally I like it just as it is.
The only slightly "negative" thing I can think of, is the sheath...while it does the job, it is nothing special...I would much prefer a nice kydex sheath and I might just get one made for it.
Ohh..some might dislike the fact that it is made in Taiwan, but honestly I don't thing that's such a big deal...it sure seems that their QC works:thumbup:
This knife will for sure accompany me on my hiking trips, it will without any doubt make a great camp knife.
So, if you are looking for a cheap, tough, large knife look no further!
