Does anyone know if the tang on the KA-BAR machete's are a solid full tang without cut out's underneath the handles or do they have the cutout's like their knives do? There are a lot of knife models that I like but I just can't bring myself to trust a tang with cutout's that weaken the handle design. Thanks in advance.

You mean the grass machete? The tang on that is the same as the tang on the warthog and cutlass machete. There are images out there for those, but it is a fairly wide rectangular tang with a single hole at the end for the pin. Should be plenty strong.

And as far as skeletonized tangs go, I've never seen a knife with one break that didn't already have a heat treat problem. Which is to say that I haven't seen any more failures of knives with skeletonized tangs than I have knives without them.

To each his own though :).

Yep, I was looking at the grass machete. There have been a few post's, I recently saw one on here where one broke right at the handle where the cut out was, just a concern if battoning. Thanks for the info.

Yep, I saw that thread, it was an improper heat treat on that one iirc. I'm just saying that kind if problem can happen even without skeletonized tang.

The grass machete is quite good though, although I wouldn't call it a traditional machete as its a bit thicker. But if you're looking for something for more woody targets its a good choice .
