Does anyone have any info on the allegations that the the Ka Bar MULE Tac. Folder lock-up mechanism may have a tendency for failure, and if this is accurate, has Ka Bar addressed this issue? If so, what have they done to rectify the problem?

I have never heard anything but the highest praise for the robustness of the KaBar Mule design.

It would be more accurate if you would edit your post to put a "?" at the end of your title. The way it is now makes it look like you are reporting a failure.

Just a follow-up. I received my new Ka-Bar MULE Folder today. The thing is a beast. While it may not be the biggest or baddest tac. folder out there, the thing is extremely well built and solid. I cannot believe, under normal (your definition of normal may vary) use conditions, that the lock-up on this knife would be prone to failure. This folder represents an outstanding value. Since I'm new to this fourm (or any fourm for that matter), I hope I didn't violate any unspoken fourm etiquette by responding to my own thread; however, since I questioned Ka-Bar's lock-up integrety on the MULE, I felt it was appropriate to dispell any concerns that my initial inquiry may have raised. I highly recommend the MULE to anyone looking for a well-built, value-priced tactical/utility folder in the $50.00 price range. For the money, you'll get a whole lot of knife.

I've seen these two videos complaining about the locks, but they're the only gripes I've heard:

I think it is a great practice to follow up on your own thread if you have more useful information to share. Your first post in this thread was a question, one which you may have had (looking at the timing of your posts) that came up after you made arrangements for the knife.

Regardless, I personally appreciate someone that takes a moment to answer their own question for everyone to see, especially if it is a concern about quality of knife. In this case, while you could have easily put folks off for no reason, (even as mild as your question was!) you did the right thing by posting again with your own personal "in hand"experience.

Too many people are quick to whine when they think they were shorted, but don't remember to follow up when things are made right. We pay attention to the whine because we don't want to follow in their footsteps. It is easy to forget to follow up a negative report, we just remember that "somewhere I heard something about that item wasn't right....".

Thanks for the follow up.

Robert

Welcome aboard. You did exactly right.

Looking forward to reading more posts from you.

I have heard of people batoning with the mule no problem.

Although I've yet to put my MULE through any heavy use such as batoning, I absolutely believe that this folder is durable enough to stand-up to such riggors. Ka-Bar did good.

Looking at the design of the mule..I think the reason it might have closed is because the lock was disengaged when gripped a certain way..because the backlock is right in the middle of handle. Maybe it doesn't need to be pushed in that far to disengage it.I like the bobcat because the disengage is all the way near the butt of the handle.
