Ka-Bar Mule

same here, I wonder how it compares against the endura, for the price I could get an endura. both have zytel (possibly different composition) and the endura has vg-10 steel and pocket clip as well.

I would recomend that you stay away from this knife. I don't own one, but I have handled the one in the store more than enough. This piece is so heavy, I can't even call it a one handed opener. The only quick way to open it is to snap it out in the reverse grip; problem is that 9/10 times the blade will not lock open but snap back at you. I'm pretty sure this guy weighs more than a ka-bar USMC. I would get a fixed blade over this any day. But that's just my two cents.

Clerk, how's the grip? I've thought about adding a pocket clip as well but the choil looks small.

I have to disagree with Knifeclerk. It can't be compared to the Endura. They both have zytel scales, but the Mule also has thick steel liners and a solid butt piece. As such, it's meant to be compared to a Buck 110 - to which it offers better steel and one-hand opening. It's not for those seeking something that's clippable to a pocket or can be flicked open. Sure, a fixed blade is usually your best choice when you need heavy duty, but for those seeking an extra-tough folder it's first class.

The grip is excellent, especially if your hands are large - it's almost six inches closed.

The display model that fails to lock is probably defective and/or doesn't appreciate being snapped open.

The included sheath however is not so super, it's a convoluted horizontal/vertical affair.

I always preferred a bowie/cliip style blade for my knives... it's one of the few one handed openers with a clip blade... the other I know of is the CS Voyager... any other cheap ones?

Dogplasma: First I would like to say That I never compared the mule to the endura. Not sure if that comment was directed at me, but just in case. Further more, not only the display model does this in our store. When first I realized this, my coworker and I opened our one other Mule to try it out. Same problem with the opening. If it is unique to only a few models, my guess would be that there is a design flaw inherent to the general production that allows for this to happen.
I'm not sure if that last part made sense. I'm a little off tonight.
But what I said about keeping a fixed blade was simply that for the weight on the belt, and the general size of it, a similar weight/shaped fixed blade would be better.
1: More easily accessable.
2: Stronger engineering.
I don't intend to step on your toes, but I just think that there are much better options available.

ps: I checked, the USMC actually weights slightly more than the mule. I was wrong.
pps: Smoke, the grip is large and full-bodied. Very round. Designed for people with adequately large hands.

KC -

The Endura comparison was directed at Horizon Seeker, as he wondered how they compared. As far as fixed blade alternatives, I tend to agree with you and was just saying that if one seeks a strong knife that needs to fold, a la the Buck 110, I think the Mule merits serious consideration.
