Ka-Bar Next Gen or SOG Seal Pup?

Hi everybody.
I recently destroyed my Aitor Oso Negro, so i'm looking a replacement. I'm trying to choose between the Ka-Bar Next Generation and the SOG Seal Pup. The knife will be used for camping, backpaking, some diving and survival if is needed (we never know). I'm considering the kydex sheath for the Ka-Bar and the nylon one for the SOG. Is this the best forum for this question?

Fallkniven A1 or S1 is an option but between seal pup and ka-bar next generation i would go with the seal pup
 
The Ka-Bar is a 7" blade knife patterned after the old MK2 if it is the one I'm thinking of. I have an older one in Sanvik steel. It has a stainless guard and pommel with a nice grippy kraton handle. It's a rugged knife. The SOG Seal Pup is a much smaller, lighter knife in AUS-6 with a Zytel handle and a 4.5" blade. I prefer the Seal Pup Elite, but the Pup is not a bad knife. I have one of each. Quality is comparable in each brand. The comparable SOG knife to the Ka-Bar would be the 7" Seal 2000.

Out of the given choices i'd go with the ka-bar with a plain edge, but then again i already have the seal pup. the nylon sheath that came with my pup was terrible imo.
 
The SOG Seal Pup is a great knife. I'd choose that one over the Kabar because you mentioned diving, unless you are referring to the 440A version Kabar which I have no experience with

My thoughts exactly. Another thought would be to get a kydex sheath for your seal pup. Kydex retians nearly no moisture verses the nylon. I had mine around water alot :thumbup::thumbup: It would be a great choice. Seal 2000 and Seal Team Elite are great knives as well, speaking from personal experience.

Yeah I would choose the kydex sheath for the Seal Pup as well. SOG's kydex sheaths are designed with a hole near the bottom to release any water that gets trapped in there
 
I like the SOG 2000, but as I live in Portugal, I would have to sell a leg and an arm to get one. I'm talking about that more recent Ka-Bar, the one in 440A, no upper guard, kydex sheath, etc
 
440A will not hold an Edge like 1095,440A will not be as strong as 1095 but 440A will be rust resistant.
 
I dont like the upper guard of those 1095 Ka-Bars. The black, desert, etc versions come with the kydex sheath, right?
 
you can cut & file the upper guard on those Ka-BAR but its not really nice without the upper guard,I done it on a USMC & i dont like he's new look.

the black KA-BAR come with a leather sheath too,the zytel sheath is an option. But i dont know for the desert or green.
 
I never said, but the diving capability is secundary, it would be nice, but is not the most important. I'm liking the ideia of the Seal Pup with the kydex, but those serrations.... Any comment on them?
 
I'd look at a seal pup elite which come in a plain edge if your set on one. I'd rather have the ka-bar,srk, or fallkniven for your uses.
 
I own the Next Gen., and I like it, is a modern version of the old warrior, but made with more resistant materials, an upgrade of the traditional.
I also have the SOG Seal 2000 and the Seal Team, and compared with them Ka Bar is a knife you can depend on too.

I have the Seal Pup Elite without serrations and polished finish. I really love it and the sheath also has a handy pouch on the outside which I use for a multi-tool.

I have that model and I agree completely. It is a very useful little knife. I had to buy my cordura sheath from SOG. I hated that "Groove" kydex one.
