Ah, "powdered metal." That explains why I thought it was stainless -- I remember it being a sort of brushed stainless color.
 
Yes, it is...304 stainless (powder metallurgy), epoxy coated. Pommel too.

Older NexGens with 12C27 blades did not have epoxy coated guards & pommels, just a matte or brushed finish.
 
The 21st century NextGeneration is a sweet blade. In fact, it's the only fixed blade I own.

I'm in a dilemma. I've wanted for some time now to purchase either a Benchmade 520 Presidio or an Emerson Commander. I've read just about all I can on these two blades, however I wanted to get some real-world opinions. So, how about it, which one do you boys prefer?
