On the new show The River last night one of the caricatures picked up a USMC Combat utility knife and went after whatever it was that was tormenting them. It's cool to see something you love on tv like that!

I noticed that too. I actually thought, "I wonder if that was a real Ka-Bar?"

Most of the time, yes, it is. In some of my pursuits lately, I've been forced to come into contact with some of the prop masters that work in the entertainment industry.

Most of the time, they just go to the local knife shop, pick up a blade, the mod it so its not dangerous to the actors. Stuff like the rubber blades, and trainers, are made in house, but for simple on screen imagery, the just dull the edge and blunt the tip. Most are things you wouldn't notice in the brief glimses you see on the silver screen.

That said, Kabar knives (Marine F/U) is one of the most used knives in movies as a whole. ESEE laid claim to having their blades in Battlefield Los Angeles. And they were, but if you watch the movie, Aaron Eckharts character uses a Kabar Next Generation to dissect the alien, to find out how to kill it. Yup, check it.

If you watch NCIS, the Marine Kabar is featured there, it one out of 3 episodes. Yes, ZT and Kershaws are the dominant blade for the NCIS team, but keep you eyes open, you'll see the F/U knife quite often. Its one of my "watched" shows (I only have 3), and I pay close attention to knives. :D

Its an iconic knife, the American Legend, the most sold knife in Kabars lineup, passed from father to son, grandfather to grandson, uncle to nephew, friend to friend, and so on. Not many blades can offer that same criteria. Some can, RMK for one, but there's not that many.

So, keep your eyes on the prize, look for that leather handle (or Kraton) and trust me, you'll see more Kabars in entertainment features than most.
