Which is it officially?

KA-BAR or Ka-Bar?

I'm thinking KA-BAR, but I see Ka-Bar enough that I'm wondering.

On the website, http://www.kabar.com/, it's all KA-BAR

Thanks Travis. Website. Obviously my brain has already shut down for the night.

A little extra clicking and I found this.

> I've seen KA-BAR spelled many different ways. Which is correct?
KA-BAR is the current, official spelling of our name. But we're an old company and over the years Ka-bar, Ka-Bar, Kabar, and KABAR have all been used. Wondering where a name like KA-BAR comes from? Read a little bit about it here.

Yeah, i figure back in the day when
the good folks first received that fabled penned letter,
It would have been entirely written in capital letters.
Only problem with that theory is that block letters would have been far easier to read.
Which would mean that it was more probable that
the letter was written entirely in cursive handwriting.
Now tell me if there would have been any call
For the use of capital letters in that sentence
Explaining the purported account of having killed a bear?
I vote for an all lower cased "ka-bar"...

Hmmmm, who writes "I k a bar" for "killed a bear"
I thought Ka-Bar was from the way it was annunciated by a person saying they killed a bear. Forgot about the whole letter thing.

If the letter did exist, it was likely a not-so-scholarly guy who lived in the wilderness, his spelling was likely off. Plus, after a letter traveled from wherever he was all the way to NY, it was probably smudged and such. He may have even written "killed a bear" very elegantly, but due to water damage and the like all they could read was "k a bar."

It is "KA-BAR". The capitalization or lack thereof represents different time periods in the company history (Ka-Bar, ka-bar, Ka-bar) and can be used to help ID the age of knives. For the modern era it is KA-BAR.

Thanks OKB. Good to see you back around.

It could have been changed to all caps to make the stamping easier to do and easier to read. Slightly larger letters than the lowercase.
