Has anyone used this machete? I wonder how the steel holds up? I can use a good machete for some cleanup on a slope in the backyard. I have been clearing small pine with a loper, but weeds and stuff keep cropping up. My Kukris are too much blade for the weeds, and I would hate to use my really good blades on weeds and brush. I have a Ka-Bar cutlass machete that works OK, but requires excessive bending and resharpening. I have a 1X30" belt sander, so the resharpening is not a problem.
This Ka-Bar Parangatang is expensive, but is it worth it? The extra length would be helpful.

I have no input other than to say that I've never had a Kabar product fail on me, and that the name "Parangatang" is effing hilarious, and they deserve a high five for actually giving a product that name!

Same steel the full size utilizes, only $50 more. I haven't had a problem with any of my Ka-Bar products.
The 1095CV of the Parang. will hold an edge longer, and appears to be more resilient. Which I believe addresses one of two parts of your qualms with the cutlass. The Parang is also slightly thicker. In the end, it's up to you, I love Ka-Bar, I have six more Ka-Bars on my "25 To buy" list for knives... they're just all over #10, because I already have 4... : x

Hiya Gjys, I pulled the trigger on this Ka-Bar Paramgatang, I'm pairing it off with the Potbelly, both knives have good video's on YouTube, I plan to use it as my Summer Long Knife giving my Swamp Rat Rodent Rucki a rest (awesome Long Knife), I like the 1095 CroVan because the added Cronium and Vadalium improves the grain in the steel, it's not a new steel it also was used in companies that made some great knives of the past like the vintage Schrades, Westerns, and Camillus just to mention a few, back then it was referred to as 0170-6C, which is the same this is one of the reasons I bought almost a complete line of the Ka-Bar Beckers, sone of the vintage knives in that steel realize a good price today, so if you like to know more about the Parangatang check the video's out on YouTube like Israel We'll all juggle knives he does the Parangatang and the Potbelly, and there's another one that's called Parangatang Test + (something ?). So far it looks like a keeper.
