Forgive me if this is on here somewhere, I am a poor college kid so I don't have a paid membership yet to search. I found an old Ka-Bar in my great-uncle's garage and it needs some work. The finish on the blade is surely beyond repair, but I want to fix the grips. The leather rings have apparently cracked and the handle has been covered in...you better sit down...electrical tape...I want to know if these rings can be replaced and ho wmuch effort and expense it is and...is there anyone here in the ATX area who would like to do it instead of me?

Thanks

Can't help on price estimates...but there's hope. The leather can be redone and worse case scenario will probably be a blade that doesn't look new but its still fully functional.

Yea...the blade still cuts, it's just pitted some. Also, I looked on the Ka-Bar site for info. Where should I look elsewhere?

Punch out the pommel pin which goes through the pommel and blade tang and then you can remove the stacked leather handle rings. They can be replaced by using the same stacking system/method. You would have the contour the new stacked handles and make the cut rings in the new leather around the grip. While you have the leather handles removed the blade could be stripped and re-coated with GunKote bake on enamel finish which can be purchased in almost any color from "Brownells." This would make an excellent project for you and would be something you could be proud of once finished since it was owned by a family member!,,,VWB.
