My buddy just ordered a kbar 1213 with the "hard plastic sheath". Anybody ever see this thing before? Does it rattle?

Not sure, I don't remember my 1217's rattling around, and there's not much difference between those 2. If you don't get enough feedback here, I'll move this to General, you might get some more info there.

We'll see.

Yeah its the same blade just with a kraton g handle. It was 10 bucks more than the one with a leather sheath, I'm not expecting anything amazing but I hope it at least quiet.

If not, I believe there are some quick fixes, like a little bit of gutted para stuffed in the sheath, or some "ranger band" pieces thrown in there. Most folks that have an ESKabar have some sheath rattle, so you might want to check some of those threads for some ideas, IF you need it, but I think you're good.

When I had my Next Gen., I don't remember it rattling in the sheath. It had a pretty good lock up.

Single purpose fighting knife, imo the best of the breed.

Resize the pic please, this will totally screw up the thread. Thanks.

In the old style sheath they had a type of "tensioning" ramp on the sheath and those didn't rattle. I still have the hard sheath but it has a leather handled Ka-Bar in it now, but it still doesn't rattle. I think the new sheaths are even tighter fitting than the old ones.

I have the same KA-BAR with the leather handle. The sheath was fine, but I eventually just bought the leather sheath. Seemed more classic. Had a nice, tight fit, and doesn't give that usual sound you can hear a mile away when the knife clicks in and out of the sheath.

I have model 1214 and don't notice any unwanted rattle as long as the knife is secured in the sheath. Now if I'm moving through the brush and the sheath hits something, there might be some sound.

This is where adding a utility pouch and cordage come in handy :)
