First, just wanted folks to notice that the contest prize was upgraded. Ka-Bar tossed in a Dozier folding hunter to make up a really nice backpacking combo.
Second, I added a condition that the winner needs to review the stove and the knife. We're trying to grow the Ka-Bar forum, and some input would be appreciated.
Lastly, here's a space where people can discuss the contest. What knife are you going to use? What sort of cooking do you have in mind? How big is the fire pit you just dug in your neighbor's back yard?

Sweet Guyon! I'm gonna use my current camp setup to make this fine meal. :D A twig stove; sort of.

I would totally do this, but alas, I do not own any KaBar knife too cook with :(. I'm hoping to win one of the giveaways though.

In terms of growing the forum (and the brand), I think that having giveaways (with reviews being part of the stipulation for the winner) is a great idea. I also think that Mooses thread in the Becker subforum asking for comparison reviews was a great idea, and something like that could be done in the KaBar forum as well. The biggest reason is that many people look for reviews like that before purchasing, and they are often hard to find. If there are many good reviews here, more people will come to check them out, and more sales and things will result as well. Thats a win/win from my point of view.

I also think a spotlight by a forum member or moderator on a certain kabar knife each month could be great. For instance, I didn't even know that JAB knives existed until this forum was created, so I would imagine that there are more people out there like me. Maybe after the review by the senior member, then have a giveaway for it? More exposure is what you're going for, and I think that would be a great way to get it.

Cheers!

P.S. I'll sign up for testing free knives :).

planning to use my surplus swedish volcano stove & navy Mk1 -- if I can get a break from the rain on my day off tomorrow.

If it was made by Ka-Bar, it counts. Remoras are Ka-Bars.

I just know what's going to happen; I'm going to cook some of my city-boy stuff in my city-boy backyard firepit, and then one of these hardass rednecks is going to show up cooking a caribou head that they had just severed after blasting huge holes in it with their elephant gun :)

Can't beat a good redneck! Just gotta befriend 'em and hope they bring you along :)

Beg, borrow, or steal! :D

The sad part is that I don't even know anyone with a KaBar, so there goes the first two options, and I don't know anywhere locally that carries them either, so that one doesn't work either.

This means the only kind of story that I could share in mooses kabar story thread, is of wanting one :P.

I might have to jump in on this one. I've got 5 Ka-Bar's, 3 Kukri Machetes, 1 USMC, and I've got a Becker Necker in San Mai coming. Kukri has already been reviewed, which I'll port over here, USMC is pretty well known, so I haven't bothered, and the necker is totally getting reviewed. I've also got a BRKT Bravo Necker 2 and Cold Steel Counter Tac 2 which are the competition for my backup EDC fixed blade.

Probably would do food prep involving the Kuk, the USMC for slicing and dicing, and the Necker for paring and small tasks. However, the rules suggest I'm only allowed to use one knife...which one to choose? Also, do we have to cook outdoors? I'd happily do food prep in my kitchen, but I'm not allowed to build fires in my neighborhood (too many rules about the outdoors). I don't really need a stove, but I'd happily compete for a new knife to review.

As many knives as you need, as long as they came from Ka-Bar

It is an outdoor cooking contest because you'd be vying for an outdoor stove.
I'd prefer the stove go to someone who has the inclination and the ability to cook outside.

There are plenty of ways to enter though.
Think outside the box here. Are there any parks with outdoor grills? Could you cook on your patio with a camping stove?
Case in point, a lot of folks here could cook a pretty good meal on a small patch of concrete with a just a canteen stove kit.

Let me add that the point of the contest is to get outside and DO something, even if it's just cooking some beans and franks over a can of Sterno.
Learn about the Sterno. Be the Sterno. Next time you might HAVE to use canned heat, you'll have some experience to draw on.
Smell the food cooking without a roof over your head. Enjoy a good bite while feeling a breeze. Go take a walk and fart because you ate too many beans and franks.

You might win a knife and stove, but the cool thing is that you got out from behind the computer and cooked a meal outside.

I finally have all the prizes in hand. I'll probably end the contest around the first week of September (couple more weeks).

This is a cool prize combo.

Just happen to be doing some cooking outdoors this weekend. Also happen to have a Ka-bar or two. Will post what we come up with.

So what's going on with the judging? I know it's gonna be tough. There were some great entries. :)

Yes, see the "Last call for boarding" thread. I haven't been on as much lately, but I'm going to close that one up this week.
