So I got bored the other day and decided I wanted to put an edge on the 1.5" or so of the spine starting at the tip of my Ka-Bar short fighting/utility knife (hopefully that's clear, don't know how else to describe it). My preferred, PREFERRED sharpening method is my Gatco Edgemate system, but I quickly realized the clamp couldn't hold the knife well enough. There is not a solid enough piece to grab onto except when I get far enough down the blade that half of the portion I am trying to sharpen is inaccessible b/c it is too far away from the reach of the stones (again, does this make sense?).
So my question is, does anyone have any solution of getting around this without my spending any extra money on different sharpening methods? I have a Sharpmaker also, but that'll take forever on the initially unsharpened edge, and I don't want to pay the $$$ for their diamond sticks. I also thought of using sandpaper, but that's a pain in my view. Again, any ideas on how I can get my Gatco to work for this? Thanks!!!
