So I'm thinking of purchasing this knife for a friend, since it's his birthday and he's been hinting to everyone that he wants it.
I don't want to get it for him if he can't carry it, so what is the legal status of this knife here in California?
I've tried searching for an answer myself, but couldn't come up with anything state specific.

He lives in Long Beach, in LA County if that helps any.

Thanks guys,

Jon

In CA, it's legal to carry any fixed blade totally unconcealed on the belt (waist). Can't be covered by a jacket, etc.

In LA, it's illegal to have any knife visible.

I don't know about Long Beach.

Per state law, the only way to legally carry that knife would be unconcealed.

Since the blade is under 3", I don't think he'll have any problems city/county laws.

So, if I'm understanding correctly, the state says it must be visible and unconcealed, but the county says it's illegal to be visible?

Damn. I guess I'll get him a Boker Wharcom since he has been raving about that too.

Thanks for your guys' help.

County says it's illegal to be visible only if the blade is over 3". Since this knife is under 3", it's ok visible.

Medusa is correct. Legal to carry exposed, illegal concealed. No prob with LA Ords because it is under 3".

last month i went to court because a rookie cop in my town took a neck knife that i was wearing concealed,of course, from me that was way under the legal blade length of 2.5 inches. it was an emerson la griff. The judge gave me the weapon back, and told the police officer to stop wasting time. When i asked the judge to clearify the law he stated that unless on school grounds a fixed blade of 2.5 or less was legal to conceal. this is a state law and the county i am in has no other restrictions. always check you local laws, or any laws where you are planning to carry. i know San fransico has some different restrictions.
