as practical as a knife can be... doesnt SC have some pretty liberal carry laws? personally i believe the TDI knife to be a little gimmicky i think that if you want a knife of that nature a push dagger is far better. benchmade makes a damn nice one at an affordable price. the double edged blade can cut either way and the natural motion of stabbing will cause beep debilitating wounds.
but if your willing to pay a little more the emerson folding K-bit is what i carry a small ittle blade but capable of some major damage. its small size makes it legal to carry most anywhere (remember a small box cutter in your hand is better than a giant sword left at home) but its curved blade has the wicked look of a tigers claw (intimidation is a much better plan than jsut having it out if you let it be known that you are willing to slice some-ones throat open they will probably back down). i have literally trusted my life on this knife and its one of my most treasured possesions. the wave opener gets it out in a hurry and it fits my hand like a glove, the ring makes it hard to disarm and even if it breaks your finger with torque youll still have your knife and 3 good fingers to grasp your blade with anyways. also it can cut rope chord and most importantly seatbelt like a champ so it also is a great tool if you get in a car crash. its the biggest little knife out there and the wave puts it in the fight quick.
another option on the cheaper side is the gerber gaurdian backup knife, small and handy its a double edge dagger that can wedge over 3 inches of blade into someone quick the blade is soft and cushy and feels good in the hand offers a secure grip even when wet wether that wetness is rain blood or perspiration. the blade is coated black making it easier to conceal or palm. i have a friend that carries on in a pocket and one in his belt he likes them that much i have another friend who i made an underarm rig for him out of some 550 similar to a mercharness it rides close enough to his body that he can wear an a-shirt/wifebeater and you cant tell its there. the blade is like a needle its sharp enough to cut and slash but stabbing is what its designed for and the designer is one of the best(bob loveless). really the only weak point of the gerber gaurdian is its sheath which i think is a little bulky and gimmicky, i also think that the tension adjuster is rather pointless a nice kydex sheath would be much better imho but that is just a matte rof preference and you may like the sheath just fine.
hope you find what your looking for.
