I was doing a review of the USMC this morning, and it wasn't doing QUITE as well as it should have....I have the edge tweaked now, but it was cutting so-so during the test. On a whim, I pulled out the BK9 because I had not bottle-tested it yet. What followed was the best cuts I've ever done. What is important to point out, if you are familar with bottle testing, is you usually have to have some good velocity to get a good bottle cut. I was half-assing the BK9 and it was like a lightsaber...

The 5 second stare after you decapitate mr. evil water bottle is classic, HAHAHA! Good review

Um, two totally different knives. What did you expect?

Really? So...What you are saying is, they aren't the same?

I wasn't expecting anything, I hadn't even tried the BK9 on a bottle test before. I've hit bottles in the same spot with machetes that'll split hairs, and it didn't do THAT. Usually, hitting a bottle in that spot just results in a flying bottle. With the BK9 I barely felt any resistance.

That testing would get expensive around here, since we use Nalgene bottles for our water. :) Good stuff, keep them coming!

Excellent vid, C.

Loved it, and yeah, lightsaber.....

somewhere off screen in that video, there's a BK-5 jumping up and down saying "me next! me next!!"

It is physically impossible for a 6 inch KA-BAR to match a BK-9 for slicing/chopping... bigger blade always wins. Moot point. Nice vid tho.

So by that logic, My 24" Cold Steel Cutlass Machete should have owned the BK9?

Size doesn't matter in bottle cutting, and it's not near as easy as it looks. It just having the right speed, angle, and sharpness. Only straight cuts count, and not knocking the bottle over is the ultimate test. I'm still working on my bottle skillz.

To be fair to the Ka-Bar, I worked on the edge for 30 minutes after that vid, then went out and got a perfect decapitation. Even so...never got a perfect cut through the bottle threads with no resistance before like that BK9 did. The only cut even close to that was the perfect decap I got with a Cold Steel Frontier Hawk.

Not really a fair fight, BK9 V's a blade of similar mass, balance and length would be more =
