Hey users of BladeForum.com,

Can anyone tell me what the difference are between the Ka-Bar USMC and the Camillus Marine Combat Knife (5684B). I am planning to bay the Camillus because it is a good 30 euros cheaper and they look a lot like each other. But there must be some differences. Im specially interested in the capability of using it in the woods: cutting rope and small trees down, chopping/slicing wood and hunting. Edge holding and rust prevention are also important.

The KaBar was used in many wars..there's a lot of History that goes with that blade.
The Camillus is a good bargain of great quality too..you pay for the one you like best.
Also look at the Ontario SP-1..it's a comfortable handle.
One more suggestion..if you have big hands the Becker BK-7 is a very good camp knife although heavier design than the KaBar.

In my experience the Camillus heat treat is a little better than the Ka-Bar, and both have better heat treat that Ontario YMMV
The BK-7 is a very good choice, especially for the money. Be advised that the Camillus/Ka-Bar and the BK-7, although roughly the same length, are very different so you should handle both before you decide, if possible.

I have both. The KABAR's fit and finish will be infinitely better than the Camillus. Both Camillus USMC's that I have came DULL. When i say dull I mean they edge still had the black phosphate coating on it. The black epoxy powder coat on a KABAR can take a beating, you can scratch the coatin off a CAMILLUS with your fingernails.

I have 9 KABARS (next gen, traditional, impact) all razor sharp and clean.

I recommend KABAR hands down.

but it's a good solid knife, especially for the price. Save 30 Euros and get the Camillus. Just my two bits.
