Ka-Bar USMC sharpness

Just bought my first fixed blade a Ka-Bar USMC. First off what a great knife!

It's fairly sharp but not massivley, I guess this is down to the type of use these knives get and edge durability?

I'm not too worried about durability, how sharp can I get it with the factory grind angles and are waterstones the route to go down?
 
Those are made of 1095. They are wide enough and have the right sort of geometry that you should be able to get that thing as sharp as a razor blade and it should hold that edge very well. That is a very well designed knife all the way around.
 
I sharpen mine on the spyderco sharpmaker. The extra fine rods get it razor sharp. Love that knife.
