Do these knives hold an edge well? I have never read a review on this knife. For light/medium work (no prying or hammering) are they decent edge holders?

I have the one made by Camillus. It takes a sharp edge well, but I have not used it extensively to see how it holds it.

The one I had - my son now has - was a late Korean vintage KaBar -USMC - and that took and kept a wicked edge - I double edged mine and shaving was a snap with either side! - However, I can't speak to the newer versions -but the 1095 steel should be about the same.
Peace

ka-bars in 1095 or the pricey d2 are great as ever. d2 ka-bar is setting with my b.o.b. in my 4 years in marines i never saw one broken.

I also gave my son my Ka-bar. He loves it for working outside especially after we did a reprofile on the Edge Pro. The 1095 steal holds up well and is easy to sharpen.

Decent compared to what?

1095 Cro Van won't hold an edge like D2, but will hold an edge better than 420HC. It's a good steel that is way easy to sharpen.

"light/medium work"? No problem.

ditto to rayban on the marine ka-bar. seems like the ka-bars were kicking in all the doors over there.watch out we're drifting off subject. however after using my ka-bar from desert to philipine jungles one sure develops a lot of confidence. also these were the days of c-rations packed in boxes with steel bands holding the package together. we routinely popped the steel bands with our ka-bars. [suffered no damage]

The KaBar is a tough, well made knife. The ergos are OK but for the price it will serve very well. I used one for 8 years with no complaints.
