Hello my friends,

I am new to the forum...and still an ignorant on the subject...for that I present my apologies!

I would like to ask you advise.

I would like to buy a survival fixed blade but I am a bit low on cash (as always...my two kids ruin my bank account :)).

I was thinking of :

SOG Seal knife 2000
Ka-Bar fighting knife (modern version of USMC)
FALLKNIVEN A1 survival knife
SOG S10B TECH BOWIE

Thank you so much for your kind help...but the I got to the point where I am VERY confused.

With my very best regards

J

P.S. I got for daily use a CRKT kasper fighting folder...is it a good option? (just curious...since I've got it now).

Fallkniven or Ka-Bar out of that list. If you are set on a Carbon or Tool Steel I can offer a few more suggestions. The Rat line of knives, from either Ontario or RAT Cutlery are excellent knives, available in D2 or 1095. The BM CSK or CSK II - D2 Steel or 1095. Ranger Knives - 5160 spring steel and lots of size options.
Fallkniven is hard to beat for stainless. If I were going to carry a stainless knife for wilderness and emergency situations, it would be a fallkniven. I have never really liked the design of SOG so take that for what its worth.

+1 for the Fallkniven, if you want a stainless knife.

If you prefer carbon steel, the Rat-5/Rat-7, the Ka-Bar Heavy Bowie, and the good ol' Becker BK-7 are great choices. ;)

To be honest I am looking for something resistant (impact and corrosion), reliable, durable that can retain the edge for long and of course a good cutting habillity.

So from what you tell me:

Fallkniven A1
Ka-Bar (I do not understand if only the bowie or the USMC knife would also be a good option please let me know...they are the cheapest of all!!!)

(I am "OK" with carbon blades...but my wallet is not :( they are all veryyyy expensive...)

Please apologise...but my English is not very good!

Thank you again

Best Regards

J

I'd go with the Fällkniven A1 - it's corrosion resistant, tough, and it still cuts well. A good knife.

The Ka-Bar fighting knife and the original USMC, I'm afraid, are much more fragile, and not as corrosion resistant either. The Ka-Bar Heavy Bowies are strong, though, and also inexpensive, so you might want to go with one of those if you want a really large knife.

Of the four mentioned,I'd got with the Fallkniven.Personally I prefer The ZT0100(may change after I get a Fehrman),but they are a bit pricey.

i suggest you a (Buck General 120 pro-line)with a 7 1/2 blade you can find it on internet for 57,99....I suggest also a Cold Steel Recon Tanto this knife will resist to anything its better than a 6 inches blade for chopping

Definitely go with the Fallkniven. I've owned an A1 for a good 8 years (the original all VG10 model), and it is still my favorite knife. As far as the KaBar goes, for about the same price, you could pick up one of the Ka-Bar Bowies (either size); I own the large one and it is an exceptional knife for the price!

I have a Seal pup and would endorse it. It was not very expensive and is very comfortable. I recenlty bought a SOG field pup. It was even more econimcal and looks to be a useful knife. It is even more comfortable in the hand.

I have not owned a Falkniven, but they seem to have a loyal following.

I was thinking of :

SOG Seal knife 2000
Ka-Bar fighting knife (modern version of USMC)
FALLKNIVEN A1 survival knife
SOG S10B TECH BOWIE

I own a Ka-Bar D2 Extreme, the Fallkniven A1, and the SOG Satin Tech Bowie. All three are great knives that have a good feel to them.

If I had to choose one for looks it would be the Tech Bowie. If it was one to use, it would be the A1. Note the A1 is a tank of a knife. You might also want to consider the S1 Forest Knife.

I've had good luck with my Cold Steel SRK. Maybe not the highest quality wondersteel, but it's simple and durable. 50 bucks is really easy on the budget.

I own the SOG Seal 2000, two of the SOG Tech Bowies (nice knives) and a couple Ka-Bars but for me it’s no contest, I’d go with the Fallkniven A1 no doubt about it.

Good Luck.

I own several SOG knives and they are all great. I'm pretty sure the Fallkniven would be good too
