ok, so i kneed a knife like the "Short Black KA-BAR, Serrated Edge"which is 5 1/2" blade or the SOG SEAL Pup Elite. with a 4.85" blade and a tain or sumthing like that coating. i know that ka bar was used in WWII and SOG is for our current navy seals but which is good for streangth and durribility. which do u think is cooler and which has a better sheath? i can get the ka bar for $41.35 and the SOG for $58. thats MAD CHEAP. please help!!!

What are you going to be doing with it? around salt water go with the sog.anything else use the ka-bar.
Just my .02(cdn)

wood, and MANY and i mean it, household things. plastic electirc and even cutting meat. i use knives for everything so whats the reason SOG got * tip breaking strength
* blade toughness
* sharpness and edge retention
* handle twist-off limits
* two-week salt water immersions
* gasoline and acetylene torch resistance
* chopping
* hammering
* prying
* penetration performance
* cutting ability for six different types of rope and nylon line
* low noise and low reflection factors
* intense hands-on training in the field
does ka bar have these too???

Do a search and you will find all you need. I would go with the kabar and if you do a search you will see why.

Also next time wait more than one hour for people to respond. Be patient and maybe you will get more responses. :)

I've had better experiences in general with KaBar than I have with SOG. Reasons? I like Ka-Bar's sheaths better. I dislike the sheaths on the new Seal Pups and passed on buying one because of it. I find them to be bulky and poorly designed. But I think SOG has better blade coating and probably a better handle design. I don't think the blade steel is that big a difference. You'd have to try pretty hard to break either though I'm sure it can be done.

I like Ka-Bar's big knives a LOT. The cutlass/machete in particular.

It really comes down to your personal taste. You should buy whichever you like most. Both are good knives for the money. Neither are overly expensive so you can always buy the other if you are displeased with the first.

I have the SOG and well it rocks I have had no problems with the sheath. But they are now shpping it with a new sheath. The handle is verry grippy, the shape is also very nice. Do you self a favor and get the SOG S.P Elite.

If you decide on the SOG try to handle the Elite and the regular Seal Pup. I recently got to, and MUCH preferred the regular Seal Pup. The salesman did too.

ok thanx alot, but whats a kydex sheath? i know ka bar has a leather sheath or kydex are they the same?
which hand is better to grip and use?
which would be better to store as like thin and not bulky?

The Ka-Bar will hold an edge a lot better than an SOG. The Ka-Bar is a tougher knife and will take a lot more crap. However, the SOG is way more resistant to rust than the Ka-bar.

I like the Ka Bar sheaths better. The handle on the Ka Bar, in my opinion, is a lot more comfortable than the kraton(?) grip on the SOG. The SOG will not be as bulky as the Ka Bar.

All in all, I like the Ka Bar better.

The ka-bar also feels solid.I held a seal pup next to my short kabar I found the seal pup really light by compairrson.wether that's a fault or not is entirely up to the user.
