The unintended humor in the seller's description of the remains of the sheath is worth a look. (At least he did not call it a "fighting knife.")

I have never seen this one-piece handle. No shrinkage and I'm fairly sure if the handle nut was tightened, it was not in many years.

Spacers are black-brass-red-brass-black

KA * BAR" over "REG. U.S. PAT. O?????? "

"UNION CUTLERY CO." over "OLEAN N.Y."

Handle looks like factory work upon receipt. I'd like that confirmed and some idea of the material.

Pre-WW II I assume.

Thomas Linton,

Saw your post over at Bernard's sub forum. The handle does look legit. That "woodcraft" pattern model had several handle options; celluloid being one of them. The responses on date, model number and handle material are all good. Cellluloid is a tricky collecting material and you should be warned (again) that it is unstable at best and hazardous to your collection if it decides to breakdown and outgas. If you have any celluloid handles, keep them separated from the rest of your collection and wax both the handles and metal surfaces heavily. (This is still no insurance that they will be protected if the celluloid outgases)The best protection is to observe your collection frequently to quickly catch any contamination as it occurrs or do not collect any celluloid handled knives.
Hope this helps.

It's setting, handle up, in a glass jar, and there it will remain until I take it out to play. Takes a scary edge.

Thank you for the response.
