Looking for feedback from those with first hand experience with the Ka-Bar mule. I saw the Zombie version at the shop and kinda like the toxic green handle. What concerned me was the big Taiwan stamp on the blade. Is this a good knife? I normally carry Spyderco about 99.99% of the time but on occasion will pack something else just for fun.

Arguably, Taiwan produces many of Spyderco's best knives in terms of fit and finish, so I wouldn't discount anything (good) just because it comes from Taiwan.

From what I've read on the normal Mule (the Zombie looks to be the exact same with green scales) it's a solid knife for the price.

I have seen a couple of Made in Taiwan Ka Bar Bowie edges getting chipped out in the middle of chopping logs in Youtube vids.

Ok, went ahead a picked up the Ka-Bar Zombie Mule based on the feed back from this forum. My concern was the Taiwan origin. I have not done any cutting with it so far but I must say this is one SOLID folder! I really just wanted it for the radical color but after handling this knife for a while I'm pretty sure I will end up with another Mule in a different color for actual use. I got the plain edge version. The blade grind, finish and overall look of quality is very high. This thing is incredibly sharp right out of the box! IMO, the mule is not something you want to carry for EDC. The blade is hard to open with the thumb studs as it's very tight. The deep carry clip combined with the rubber inlays make the knife very difficult to remove from your pocket so it's clearly best carried in the excellently designed sheath. This is a knife that you carry with a bunch of gear as a back up to a fixed blade or more likely a bayonet. Yes this thing feels like it's meant for carry and use in a combat zone where there is no need to quick draw the knife. This knife is carried in the sheath where it remains secured until you need it. Once opened and locked it has the feel of a fixed blade. Lastly, I'm not really a fan of black blades on folders but this knife is very nicely done in a smooth satin black coating that just looks and feels incredibly durable. It reminds me of some of the early Busse blades that were done in a black epoxy. Anyway I'm very pleased with this knife and for the money I would definitely recommend taking a look at them.
