Not very many people seem to ever mention kabar. Are they bad knives? what are good products that are made buy kab-ar?

The fixed blades are quite good for the money and made in the U.S.A (at least most of them are.) Most of them use 1095 carbon steel which is inexpensive and yet very utilitarian and effective. They aren't the answer to those who seek flawless fit and finish but the fit and finish is fine for the price point. I certainly recommend them.

Kabar doesn't make folders, though, so the Kabar branded folders, particularly the Taiwan made models are not as highly recommended by me as the fixed blades. I'd suggest other Taiwanese folders, personally.

You must be new to this forum.Kar-Bar Dozier folders are are always recomended for price and quality.

My only K-Bar is a small "Two Blade Slimline" that was on closeout somewhere. The quality is pretty poor. Interestingly, when I wrote K-Bar a letter saying I was dissappointed and thought their name was better than their knife, I recieved a reply inviting me to join the K-Bar Collector's Club...

I'm sure like most companies their products vary in quality. But from my experience they aren't careful enough about tossing around their good name on junk.

I'd still like to have one of the $20 Dozier lightweights and one of the USMC knives...

I have 2 of the Ka-Bar Dozier folders, and you would be hard pressed to find a better value for the money, in fact you would have trouble finding their quality in some knives that cost twice as much.

The first Ka-bar USMC knife I bought was pretty nice. Nice sharp edge, comfortable handle, and useable sheath. The second one I bought was pretty disappointing though. Everything was fine except for the edge. There's barely one there at all, and I don't have the means to thin it out enough to be useable.
