Hello Everyone!,
Picked this up today, but noticed that it has staples instead of rivots. Did someone try to fix it or is this an old one. I tried looking it up, but the results were not very clear and all the ones I found with staples were old and used, mine looks to be in mint condition. Any info would help. The handle smells like leather. Thanks!

It's the new one.
It looks like someone re-stitched it and failed, then resorted to staples. probably because they ate all the paste. ;)

Thanks Karda. If it's a new one why doesnt it have rivets? all the new ones have rivets, is it a fake? Looking at a previous
post, it looked like it was a 70s model, but now im not sure. Thanks for the input.

If this wre posted in the KaBar forum, you would find people who are experts with these knives. Even TOOOJ, a KaBar designer gets on the forum. See you there!

Not a fake, just a variation in production as sometimes happens with many manufacturers.
I could possibly be wrong that it is the newest production, but i suspect that it would be no older than 1990's. The sheath could be a mismatch.

Looks like a mismatch to me. The sheath doesn't have the top strap on the belt loop that snaps over the handle, but if you look on the handle near the butt of the knife there's a dimple from a sheath snap. Looks like the knife got kicked around some and then put in new (ill-fitting) pants.

hawaiianhawk,
the picture doesnt show it, but it does have a top strap which holds the knife.

Oops. Missed that. :D I'm sure Kabar can get you a new sheath if you wanted to contact them. Or check out Skystorm's leather.

Hi Ram,

The sheath is good. Depending on the sheath source, some had round headed rivets and some staples such as you have. You have a modern KA-BAR 1217, circa late 1980s-mid 1990s.
We have since gone to all round heaed rivets.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Toooj! That helps and answers my question. I'm glad it's not a fake :) and has a little age to it and still in good condition.

Thank you again :)

Yeah, Toooj is the man, for sure.

I've never seen one with staples, but I have now. :D

I've seen 1 0r 2 others on that auction site before, but always thought the staples were an end user repair. Never would've guessed that they came from the factory like that. At least i was close on the vintage.
You learn something new every day. :D
