Is it just me or does it seem like the curved style serrations found on KaBar USMC D2 cut way better than the more common pointed style serrations found on all other types like Spyderco etc. I would have thought that at least one or two knife makers would have copied the style of the KaBar serrations by now. I think they over all cut way better through everything I've tried, the one thing I haven't tried howver is human skin, and depending on the intended use of the knife I guess the pointed type might work better, but for general and hard cutting I find the KaBar to out perform all the others by far.

I also don't like the spyderco style pointy serrations. The only ones I have tried that I like are the victorinox ones on the OHT. I also prefer them on the front of the knife as opposed to the back.

They're useful for another thing that you normally wouldn't think of as a job for serrations...they can tiller down a piece of wood like nothing else, say if you're making a walking staff or bow from a sapling. Since they're shaped like teeth they can tiller/plane off really meaty strips with little effort and a lot of control. I've found that pointy serrations don't do this well.

i only have a few serrated knives, and the only one with flatter serrations is the secondary blade on my leatherman charge ti, and i must also say that i like those serrations alot more.imo the pointy ones are better for really hard stuff, but for general use i prefer the curved ones.
