I bought a used, but not abused Kabar 1030 Trapper at our local gun show. Carbon steel blades, Delrin handle slabs with a Kabar escutcheon with a good fit, strong walk and talk and the blades sharpened up very nicely. Two questions. First, what is the blade steel, 1095? Second, when compared to Old timers, Uncle Henry's and Case, how does the Kabar rate for quality? John

john i think you are correct about the 1095 & i.m.h.o. ka-bars & older schrades seemed to hold an edge better. the carbon steel was able to take a razor edge.

The founder of Union Cutlery (which became Kabar after WWII) was Wallace Brown, whose mom was Emma Case. She was the sister of WR Case, and first cousin of Russell Case. All had their start with Cattaraugus knife company. Until he sold the company, the quality of their product was very good.
