I just aquired a Kabar 1184 Folding Hunter.
I don't know that much about folders...I'm a Randall collector/user...
but admired a friend's 1184.
It's used but in good shape...needs a little cleaning...
blades are tight...but a little difficult to open.
Is there anything I should/could do (WD-40?) to make the blades easier to open?
I also am not sure of the value of a Kabar 1184...I'm planning to use it on camping/backpacking trips, as I do some of my Randalls...is this ok or does it belong in a show case?

I'm new to this forum and appreciate any help/advise!

Congrats on the Kabar purchase. I have an 1184, it took a great edge. As far as the blades being stiff, I would guess it's not been used much and so not broken in yet. Also, probably some old gunky oil in the pivot area. I would clean it with a solvent, like brake cleaner, then lube with light oil. I use Breakfree on mine. Enjoy it, it's a very nice knife.
