I'm looking for an inexpensive kamp kicker and I've got it narrowed down to these two. You know, anything from slicing taters to shaving tender. However, I can't find reviews or opinions on either. If you have any first hand experience or knowledge of these two, I would appreciate your time to chip in.

Are you sure you want a machete for those tasks? I own two reg Kabar knives for camping and they are both fantastic. I didn't see any listing for the blade steel on the Schrade other then Stainless steel. Of those two, I'd trust the 1085 carbon steel on the Kabar.

PS. If you are looking for a cheap camp beater, check out Cold Steel Bushmans. About $20+ and I would guess superior then the Schradae for the $.

Agree 100%.

I'd trust the Taiwan Ka-Bar WAY before the Chinese nameless steel "Schrade". Now that Taylor brands has bought the Schrade name, all bets are off as to what you would get.

Also, like gazz, if it were me, I would probably choose a blade design aside from a machete for a camp knife. If you are willing to pay as much as a cutlass machete would cost, there are lots of knives out there that would suit me better as a camp knife. Shucks, you could start with a Ka-Bar U.S.M.C Fighting Knife.

second the nomination for the Cold Steel Bushman for low end champ of large knives.

Course a Mora would be cheaper, and might be more useful.
$14.50 at Ragweed Forge.
