im looking for a survival/large camp knife and i was wondering if anyone had any time on this blade. i really like the looks of it. its made of 1095 crovan (107-6 sharon). sheath looks like crap but i can live with that.

it going to be paired up with a becker necker.

and comments?

I have the short version with 7 3/8" blade, and unless they changed it, they are both made from 1085 carbon steel.
It suits me well, it has a larger grip then most knives, feels solid and secure in the hand, it is a pretty large knife overall. I'm partial to flat grinds and it took a pretty good edge as well. The sheath works...not pretty, but it works. For the price, I think they are a good buy if you are looking for a big chopper :)

My son has one of those and it's a nice chopper. Seems sturdy and very useable. It caries well too. That's a nice knife in that price point.

youre right it is 1085. its a little softer than i like. yeah i was liking the full flat grind.

i know its discontinued as of 2010.but you can still pick it up.

I had one. It came with a better edge than most chopper knives in the same price range, the sheath wasn't too bad. I sold it because I wanted another knife, I should have kept it. Have you looked into the Condor chopper? It sounds like a pretty good knife, convex edge, good leather sheath. And I believe it's a little more inexpensive.

thanks man.it always nice to get a couple options.

i looked on condors website and didnt see it do you know the model name or anything like that?

This one has chopped down three Sago palm trees, trimmed up a pine tree, processed a few 2x4s for fires, and a bunch of other yard work. No damage, no rust. Just light sharpening.

I keep forgetting the name of the condor chopper. The one I was talking about is the Kamunga. But they also have the hudson Bay if you prefer a shorter blade and wooden handle. They both come with leather sheaths.

I've had several big chopping knives, and the one I kept was the Ontario Marine Raider Bowie. I had it reprofiled to a thinner edge and I also had the clip sharpened. I wish I had kept the RATKII and Kabar heavy bowie. But then again, I don't have a lot of use for these types of knives.
Hope this helps.

I have one and LOVE it. It is my go-to knife for heavy duty, outdoors cutting tasks. Its has never failed. The sheath isnt too bad, its bareable. For the money, its hard to beat.

Highly recommend it!
