I have read these forums for a while now and finally took the time to sign up and become a member so I hope this thread is in the right forum. I recently bought a Becker BK10 and after receiving it in the mail noticed it had the etched logo, not the stamped one. This isn't a huge deal to me as I'm really digging the blade, but have some mods planned in the near future. I was wondering if I stripped the paint off the blade will the logo still be present? Does the etching actually penetrate the metal, or is the lack of paint, what creates the logo? I don't want to remove the paint if its gonna permanently "erase" the logo. Does anyone with the etched model have any experience with this? Thanks guys/ gals.

Welcome to the forums! Not to be that guy, but there is a large amount of information in the Becker Knife and Tool subforum about this very topic, but since you now own a Becker and I love Beckers I'll paraphrase it all for you. Otherwise for more in depth info try a forum search or Google will bring up a lot...

Anyways the logos are now laser etched which basically means they penetrate the coating and a little to the metal. When the coating is removed they will still be present just a little ghostly... If you want to keep the logos or make them deeper you will need to apply some PCB circuit board etchant to the logo prior to stripping the coating. Otherwise any sanding to the bare steel will erase the logo. It is a pretty popular mod so you should be able to find some info easily.

Did a quick googlin for yah... here is some info... More searching will bring up some more for you. I just did a quick search and preview soooo..... :D

Hope this helps and congrats on your new steel!

Wow, thanks for all the info and the links you have provided. I am starting to find my way around the forum now and see what you mean about all the info just on Beckers alone. I learned alot about the etching from what you provided so thank you!
