Would it be ideal to strip the coating? Is there any benefits to doing so? Or should I just keep it? Also, what would you recommend I use to strip the coating?

Also, on a side note: what's the difference between the BK2 and the BK22? Is it just the sheath?

That's an individual choice, nobody can really tell you one way or the other.

The benefit is customizing it to your desires. Leaving the coating on helps fight rust.

Having never stripped one before I can't really say. Some people use vinegar, others use paint remover and mineral spirits of varying calibers. But keep in mind the underneath steel is rough, dark, and needs to be polished.

Yeah it's just the sheath. Personally I'm having a hard time deciding which one to pick.

Its up to you if you wanna strip the coating...No real benift to doing so. I just stripped my bk14 today with great success using Jasco paint&epoxy remover. Worked like a charm.. Coating just melted off. I did it only because I think bare metal looks cooler and I wanna try to force a petina on it.

I recently did a very un-scientific test and did not notice any difference in performance between a stripped or unstripped blade. I have also noticed that they don't rust as easy as people tend to think. I have completely submerged my bk9 after stripping it and just haphazardly wiped it off and stuck it back in the kydex sheath I have for it. I never oil it or anything and it has yet to rust. I don't live in a very humid climate however so YMMV.

The only difference between the 2 and 22 is the sheath. I believe they are even both marked "BK2".

I would guess an un-coated blade would probably slice better it being smoother and fraction of an inch thinner. But that's not likely why you bought the bk2. As people say.. Its a sharpened pry bar. Might as well keep it on for added protection

I say use it till the coating wears off then strip it off later that way u have a nice little project on ur hands

Agree. Mine still has the coating on. I just love to see it wear off as i put it to use. That being said, i find excuses to put it to work. Lol...
