Thoughts?? IM looking for a necker. I appreciate the feedback I got on the Izula the other day. Thought I would ask for opinions on these two one against the other.

I think I like the slightly longer blade on the KaBar.

Any input is appreciated!

I have a Camillus Becker Necker. In addition to the slightly longer blade, it feels (to me) that the handle is also slightly longer than the Izula handle. For me, the Izula handle is just about 'as short as I could go' while still being comfortable to use- though I have been told that I have larger paws.

Get them both. Thats what I did. I started with the BK cause of the longer blade length, and better sheath, but ended up with the Izula as well because of the pointier tip and more comfortable handle. I love both knives, just the Izula a bit more.

I think I may go that route exactly... Start with the K BAR and see how I dig it, and then go see about the slightly more expensive, and slightly smaller RAT.

I have the Becker and love the knife and for my purposes the blade shape is more useful than the Izula, however I've handled the Izula and for me the handle is more comfortable than the Becker.

The Becker have a bottle opener.

When hesitating between 2 good models (knife or other), those small details make the difference (to me).

I find the Izula better functional neck knife/pocket fixed blade because of its compactness. As mentioned above, the point is very pointy and yet robust. It has one of the better points out there for this style of knife. The ability to use the Izula as a pocket knife (front pocket of cargo pants) is a plus, whereas the longer length of the BK makes it less suitable for this purpose.

I read two good points today (I think I am obsessing about these two knives too much! LOL)

1. One reviewer said that the Becker had too much blade for the handle. (Interesting thought).

2. One reviewer said that the "bottle opener" (I have also read as a wire "breaker") is uncomfortable in the hand. Think about it.. neither knife has a "full handle" so the but end is going to spend a good bit of time rubbing in your palm.

I dont know. Yesterday I was totally sold on getting a CRKT Dogfish AND a Becker Necker and being done with it...

Now today I am back on the RAT bus. I totally like the RAT company. And most people tend to say the izula edges out the becker slightly. Plus, its a little smaller blade so it COULD be carried concealed. Although my main desire for one of these kinds of blades is on my belt in the field or on a backpack shoulder strap.

Right now I am leaning toward the Izula.

Here is a stolen pic from the internet (not my pic... sorry to the owner).

That top knife in the red paracord looks interesting. Anybody know the maker? Looks custom.

My Izula Kit arrived late last week and have not had much time to use it.

However the whistle sounds very much like the button rabbit squaler whistle that is very commonly used to call foxes here. I'll try it out next time I have the opportunity.

and while the whistle may not be the best it was a lot better than the "survival" whistles bought from an outdoor store on the weekend. The kids are now playing with those ones!!

I don't have an Izula (yet ;)), but I can comment on the Becker Necker. If you're concerned about the bottle opener/wire breaker on the Necker, it's really a matter of your hand size. If you've got big paws, then there's a decent chance it'll bother you, especially if you're working the knife real hard. Keep in mind though that the Izula is even shorter and in that respect wouldn't be ideal either.

I have medium sized hands, long fingers but skinny. For me, there's really no way the bottle opener can bother me when I use the Necker. One, my hand isn't big enough to regularly push my palm into it. Two, the opening is so small, that your palm just works around it. Only time it bothers me is when I'm driving the knife straight into something with my palm which is . . . never.

As I'm sure you've noticed, both knives have a big following here and for good reason. They're relatively inexpensive (though I'm surprised the Izula is 1.5 times as expensive as the Necker), they're backed by good companies, and they're just very handy. If you've got the money, just get both. You can see which is more to your liking. If you're like most guys on BF, you'll keep both :D, but if you really like one over the other, both knives have good resale value here on the forums, so there's not much risk behind it.

RAT all the way. Overall, I feel the length is perfect, and the handle is comfortable in hand.

Try to actually handle any knife before you buy it! I bought an Izula after reading all the hype but I have larger than average hands. While I loved the blade the handle was just too short for me.... 3 fingers on the handle. If you have larger hands than the Becker would be better. Again, try before you buy!
