From what I have read in here K-bar Beckers have the best heat treatment, and quality control.
Camilus era beckers could be hit or miss with qaulity.
If this is true why do they bring such high prices, other than collectability.

Folks just like to own the things they can't get anymore. I just bought a Reinhardt Kukri, I paid for it, and I'll never use it , unless zombies strart driving cars. You can't get them anymore. Hell, you couldn't get 'em alot when they were in production. Yes, I'll post pics, but I'm runnin' outta bandwidth with PB.

That and the Camillus blades, were slightly different. A little thicker, a little bit different balance. Most of them had good heat treats and it really shouldn't be a consideration when you are looking at them. You really won't know until you get it out and start using it. If its a collectors piece, it won't matter anyways.

They were THE American made Becker company. Blackjack started it, but Camillus really made a bunch of them.

Like the old saying goes, "Somethings only worth, what someone will pay for it".

a number of the Camillus models can't be had at ALL anymore. that's one thing.

some people assume that because they are gone, they can command high prices. not all people believe that, and treat them with about the same prices as the models you can get.

carbon-V and the famous heat treat. for some people, that's amusing. for others? eh.

it's hard to figure out out collectors ;)

it's harder to figure out sellers. man, i'm seeing people sell NEW production KaBars at MSRP or higher sometimes. go figure.

so, yes, in theory, they're not completely rare, the prices fluctuate: they were quite high before KaBar started making the Becker line again. then they dropped. well, mostly :) not seeing so many of the $250-350 prices now though ;) for good reason. Beckers have value! we ain't crazy!

People want what they think they can't have.
I just ordered a Rowen-made H.E.S.T. for that very reason. :p
After Camillus was no more, I listed a Camillus Brute on fleaBay out of curiosity.
A bidding war ensued, the knife soared to $300, and the buyer left me ecstatic feedback because he managed to score it. Go figure.

Hey Guys.....

The ONLY place heat treat at Camillus was EVER an issue was VERY early Patrol Machetes....Camillus did an excellent heat treat .....I think the Cro-Van that Ka-Bar uses and the most excellent heat treat protocol Paul has developed aces the Camillus treatment......I challenge anyone to take one each and use them for three days apiece in the field and tell me you can tell the difference and I will be sore amazed....One is excellent and the other is more excellent.........

All Best....

So I guess Moose was right . . . go get a 2nd mortgage on my house & buy all the Becker models I can . . . :)
Surprising how much you can learn about a knife company in the 4 days I have been bouncing back & forth between forums. Grandma was right, keep the middle hole closed and open the one on each side . . . ;)
Be safe.

just sell off a few ESEE's and those accessories they's always pushing and you'll have plenty of money for Beckers and a copy of the Joy of C00king too :)

Sell? How about "donate" them to a good cause. PM me for shipping details.

Shhhhhhh, don't give them ideas buddy. I like them slow. :)

I can see charishing a rare one like that Reinhardt Kukri, but my discontinued Brute. Pfffft, fairly common. I lean toward the practical use over the collecting side anyway. So for me a knife is a knife......... unless it's a spoon. :D

Oh, you won't find a bigger knife user than me, all knives in my house get used and pretty damn hard. The RBK is a grail knife, one of a few, and I don't want to destroy something that precious to me. Some folks like fast cars and cocaine, I like knives, and this is one of 3 that I own, that will never get used. 3 outta 26 ain't bad.
