I'm looking for a good knife to use for camping and possible bushcraft stuff. My Cold Steel GI Tanto is excellent but I just want something new ya know? I'm looking at the BK5 Magnum Camp and it seems good. I know the BK9 is a guaranteed perfect fit for this but I really like the style of the BK5. Anyone have the BK5 and can witness to it's capabilities? Any feedback is well appreciated! Thanks for your time :)

I got one, and I love it, sharp fast and agile. Great for food processing and no slouch with wood either, not a great chopper but with vegetation it works well. Carves nice the swedge? Not sure what its called eats up batons but it works. I prefere the 5 to the 9 for a camp knife.

Welcome! The BK5 is a great knife and will suit you well as an all around camp knife. You can find a Becker forum under manufacturers forums where there are numerous threads touting the capabilities of the 5.

I gots me one as well, & a BK15- it's smaller brother. Fine knives. But ALL BK&T blades are fine knives. Can't go wrong with any of them. I have even batoned with my BK5 & BK15. Good stuff. GET YOU SOME !!!

If your GI Tanto is working great, why change? Your current knife is great, and it's about skill, not knife. Buying a new knife won't make you better, practice will.

Think I just did a double-take. Someone *here* suggesting that someone *not* buy a new knife? :)

Yep. And proud of it! I used to buy knives just for the reason of thinking they would let me do something better. Now I have a huge lockbox full of unused knives that I had to have, and need to sell them for a loss. Learned the hard way....

I get what you're saying. I'm glad I haven't bought every knife that caught my eye along the way. Still I have some that never get used.

It does work fine and I am still in love with it. I just like to change things up ever now and then. Shake life up. I'm not retiring my Cold Steel or getting rid of it, I will still use it heavily. I just want some other stuff as well. :)
