If you are talking about the classic military sheath knife, all the examples I have are solid disks. If you are talking about one of the many other designs Kabar has made, you will need to be a little more specific.
I posted a similar question regarding my USMC Kabar a while back as the butt cap not only felt like plastic but sounded like it too when I tapped it with a fingernail. Someone referred me to the hockey mask guy's website to see a destruction test on my knife. At the bottom of the page were the specs on the USMC which stated that the cap was made out of powdered metal.
I suppose it could have changed over the years. My newest example is over twenty years old. But somehow, I can't see them replacing the steel buttcap with plastic or anything else that could prove fragile in use.
