So, the Kabar Combat Kukri has become my obsession of the week.

Do you own one?
What are your opinions of it?

For what it's worth, I know it's not a "proper" khukri. I own a HI CAK already.

I also realize that it's on the small side, that is exactly why it appeals to me. I have been thinking of a small khukri for some time now.

I'm also interested in one. I have an HI kukri, and i think a small modern one would be awesome. I'd like to see one compared to a machax.

I've got my eye on a Machax as well, but the idea of a small kukhri has been stuck in my head for much longer...

I'm curious as well. I have a whole slew of khukuri, Nepali made and modern. I don't discount the modern made khuk one bit any more. Mine are limited to a CS discontinued LTC and a newer SK-5 Gurkha khuk, but they are both superb. I don't really like the looks of the Kabar, but it may be a winner in the field. For a long time I brushed off the BK4 as a strange looking wanna be. I see now how silly that was. I'll end up with a Machax at some point and think it will be a perfect small, packable khuk. To get back on track, I'd love to hear some opnions of the Kabar khuk. Thanks.

I've got three of the other Ka-bar kukri machetes (not the combat one), and they're fine blades. Well, technically one is my wife's... Really like em. Ka-bar does a great job on their heat treat, and the blades usually come nice and sharp. I also own a fair number of HI blades. They're cheap, so if you want one, I'd say go ahead and give it a try. Seems to me, from my experience, like it would be better for lighter tasks, like brush clearing, or vines, or other things that you'd be more inclined to use a machete for. Reasonably good at chopping, although the factory grind tends to bind, while the HI blades just eat wood for breakfast. Convex it, and you'll have a pretty decent worker.

ok so the sheath has me wandering what is the little sheath for. there's the main sheath the pouch and then there is the little sheath under the pouch whats that for?

i also have the other style from kabar. the thing chops great and takes as much abuse as i can give it. iv had it about 3 years and its chopped my fire wood on probably 30 + camping trips. still going strong.

The Kabar combat kukri feels great in hand because its the classic Kabar handle. The blade is not like a traditional kukri. The blade design is a mix between a hacker, slasher, and stabber. I believe Kabar wanted to make a kukri that a soldier could carry with him on his gear and use like a standard Kabar usmc. So it is a compact kukri. The sheath is molle compatible, the belt attachment dangles/swivels, and it can be inserted in the sheath for right or left hand carry. Over all I think it is a great knife that will appeal to kukri and Kabar lovers but it might not appeal to the purists. I would recommend it because Kabar is an amazing knife company! ;)
