I picked this up with a friend at the local NEX, sort of on a whim. It's a big, beefy folder made for big jobs and heavy work.
Here it is compared to my two main carry knives, a Spyderco Manix 2 and a Cold Steel 2011 Large Voyager:
Some factory specs:
Weight: 8 oz.
Closed length: 5.25 inches
Blade Length: 4.0"
Blade Style: Clip Point, Black Teflon Coated Combo Edge Blade
Steel: AUS 8A Stainless Steel
Handle: Zytel w/ Rubber Inserts
Lock Style: Lockback
It was also packaged with a ballistic nylon sheath that has several points of attachment for a belt or PALS/MOLLE gear. I like the sheath; like the knife it feels sturdy and well-made and supports the weight of the knife well. I mounted it to a velcro strap on my Maxpedition Fatboy GTG and carried it there all day comfortably.
In hand, the knife is big and wide. I have medium-to-large hands (large size gloves) and this knife has a LOT of real estate. Guys with meathooks should have no problems.
The edges are all finished very smoothly and it's quite comfortable to grip. The ergonomics are good and the knife feels good in a natural grip, choked forward into the finger choil, or choked back towards the butt for more reach. The choil and flare of the butt help keep the hand from sliding onto or off of the blade, and the rubber inserts add good grip both in hand and in the pocket. The only complaint I have so far is that the tip of the pocket clip flares forward much farther than any of my other knives and I can feel it dig into my palm when I'm holding the knife. Don't like that, but I can just remove it or swap it over to the other side. Not a dealbreaker.
The pocket is a deep carry foldover style and has good tension. Combined with the rubber strips, the knife is not going to move or fall out. It takes concentrated effort to pull the knife out of my shorts pockets.
The blade is a combo edge with about half-and-half serrations and plain edge, with the belly comprised of the plain portion. It's very smooth to open and the thumbstuds are easy to access, with scallops in the handle, but the opening arc is fairly long. It locks open with a reassuring snap, no blade play, and closes with authority. It came out of the clamshell with a razor-sharp edge.
There's a slight thumb ramp with some decent jimping: Not too sharp, but with enough texture to grip well. The unsharpened choil allows you to flick the knife closed like some Spydercos without worrying about the edge contacting your fingers.
Overall, I like this knife. These are just some thoughts I've had while I played with it today; I haven't done any cutting with it yet. I have no doubts it will perform well. It reminds me of a militarized, modernized Buck 110 folder. I like it and am happy that I picked it up.
