Have a deal going on this knife and haven't seen a lot of info from all of you that own one. I looked in the search mode, and saw a lot of positive feedback on the a8 model which is a lockback from what I understand, but not much about the d2 which I believe is a liner lock.

Let's hear it from y'all that have them, pros and cons. Some user reviews would be great, too. :)

I think you're talking about the model with the Dozier Ka-Bar Thorn blade in a folding hunter handle. If I didn't have the Thorn I think I'd get one of them, I like the looks and I know the blade is sharp and the mechanism is reliable. But I can't afford to buy every knife out there! :D

Take a look at the lock on that knife. It may be a tab lock rather than a regular liner lock. The tab lock doesn't just cover the lower portion of the tang, it goes all the way up, to serve as lock and stop pin combined.

Although it's a nice knife I don't trust the lock, last year at the show I showed Dozier how the lock can fail when a twisting motion is applied and the knife doesn't close but opens past the normally open point, this is IMHO almost as dangerous as the knife closing on me.

It's not the thorn blade...... Several of the production knife shops have them, kabar dozier 4059 is the model.

One site says its a side lock, another screwed up and says lockback even though their photo shows its some type of liner lock.

In New Graham's photo, the liner lock looks like it's nested.

Anyway, the cheapest price I've seen in the online knifeshops is $90 and up.

Got this one coming for $50 plus shipping.

If the lock mech is faulty, sounds like I might have screwed up on this one though.

Thanks for the responses.

By the way, what is a tab lock, and how does it differ from a liner lock?

Thanks,

Thomas Zinn

I have one and I like it. It's well made and the blade is nice and sharp. I haven't had a problem with the lock but I haven't used it hard either. $50 is a great price and I'm sure you'll get your money's worth out of the knife.

I have had the D2 Folder for 6 months. It was razor sharp out of the box. It holds a edge a long time,it is very light, and feels good in my hand.It is without a pocket clip, but I found a great pocket sheath made for William Henry knives. It was the larger of the two at newgrahm knives. There is no problem with this liner lock,it locks up tight, with no play.

From New Graham:
Ka Bar Dozier D2 Folding Hunter - KB-4059
which has the same dagger blade as the KaBar D2 Dozier Design THORN.

I can't tell if it has the same tab lock.

In other words, it's a liner lock that also shows on the back of the handle but is released like a liner lock. Because it shows on the back, and the other, Zytel-handled Ka-Bar Doziers are lockbacks, that other site misunderstood what the lock actually was.

This knife has a strong lock. The thorn is also a great knife, but it has a lock that covers the whole back of the blade. The blade is ground on the back side to a certain degree, and the lock follows it
