I am looking to get a cheap knife (under $25) for EDC for self-defense and general utility. I want something that is lightweight (2-3 oz) and around 4-4.5 inches closed. Wha are your thoughts and experiences with the Kabar Dozier Folding Hunter, Kershaw Chill, Bucklite Max folder the medium size, and the Bantam folder medium size. Also any other suggestions you may have.

2 more you could look at in your price range are the Ontario Rat 1 or 2 and the spyderco tenacious/persistence I absolutely love my persistence its worth more then the 25-30 they are asking for it

The Chill is super light weight and super skinny in your pocket. I have one, plus a spare just in case there is a Chill shortage someday. [Sorta joking, but not really]. Has a nice manual flipper, which requires a little wrist action to flick open. The Dozier is a nice, decent blade as well, and you could do worse. Not many of us really "need" more than a Dozier. If crazy light weight is a factor for you, though, go with the Chill.

Kershaw Chill.

It's tricky trying to find a knife in this price range that is lightweight and will hold up too.

Idk what the lock situation is on that chili but if SD I'd your prerogative, I like the looks of that there fingerguard.

If you want advice, don't get a folding knife as a self defense item.

If you end up stabbing someone in SD, it will only add to the general mentality that knives are only weapons.

Carry pepper spray or something.

I have the Dozier and to be honest I am quite impressed with it
My normal edc's are mostly Spyderco but the Dozier does fit in the rotation

I know they won't be equal to more expensive knives but how close are they and what are they each lacking?

The cost of a knife does not always mean they are not better than a more expensive knife. I EDC the Dozier, I also have the CS AK-47 large and small. I like all of them and they are all carried. The Dozier is a nice lightweight knife and I hardly notice it in my pocket. It could be used for getting into trouble for use as a self defense knife if you held it correctly.

Thank you everyone. I think I am going to get a Dozier to be my EDC knife. It seems lightweight cheap and overall durable and usable for self defense.
