Would like to hear some comments - pro and con - regarding the Kabar/Dozier Folding Hunter. I know this is a cheap knife at least from the standpoint of cost ($20 on the A.G. Russell site), but I have heard some good things about it - especially that it is a lot of knife for the dollar. The blade is AUS8. Seems like for $20 one couldn't go wrong, but then again if it's a POS who wants to throw their hard earned money away. Also, I would be intersted in your opinions on which Gerber to get (under $85 Gerber suggested retail)should I have to choose another knife to replace the Gerber I sent back to the factory for repair or replacement. The knife would be used for field use as a boner/skinner or all around camp knife . TIA

I recently picked one up out of pure curiosity. This is a great knife with a great profile for serious cutting. I liked it so much that I ordered a custom Dozier that I'm expecting any day. To your original question, the quality of Ka-Bar Folding Hunter is equal to that of a Spyderco like the Pro-Grip model when it was made of AUS-8. This knife is a real steal and a great user.

It's a sweet knife for $20.00. Makes a great gift knife, I bought one for me and one for a friend. Not as tried and true as a the Spydie Delica. But half the price. Only problem no hole, although the clip and thumbstud are reversible. Awesome blade profile for some serious cutting.

:)

Thanks one and all. You convinced me it would be nearly inpossible to go wrong - so I just placed my order. Since I am already a huge Bob Dozier fan I'm sure I won't be disappointed. If I like it as much as I think I will I plan on ordering 2 more as gifts. Again thanks - especially for the link to the previous discussion on this knife.

I've had mine for about 3 weeks. It was razor sharp out of the box. It's extremely well made and probably the best bang for the buck out there.

The knife feels very strong and tight with excellent blade lock up. Great working blade shape in AUS8. Workmanship is on par with any other FRN handled knife out there. The clip positions the knife deep in the pocket but very accessible.

It needed one slight modification. I used a Dremel sanding wheel to remove part of the handle behind the thumb stud. I used the Dremel to cut a small “dish” that gives you the room to get your thumb behind the stud to push the blade open.

This knife is a sleeper! And at $20 from AG Russell, it’s a steal!

Thanks Dan and all. My knife should arrive within the nesxt 2-3 days and I really looking forward to it based on all of the great reviews. Probably going to turn out to be the best $20 I've ever spent.
