Today I was making the rounds to several of the knife sites I normally visit on a daily basis, when I decided to head on over to A.G. Russell's to see what was new after not having visited in about a week. To my surprise, I found a picture and description of the forthcoming KABAR collaboration with Bob Dozier, the Thorn folder. Those with "sharp" eyes will immediately reconize this as a scaled down version of Bob's Folding Dagger. Normally, I don't go for dagger style blades, but the KABAR version is now on my list of stuff to get :) What do you all think? See it here: http://www.agrussell.com/ka-bar/ka4060.html

Looks like a winner to me  I wish KABAR can do one of Bob's folding hunters, either the Buck Hunter or the Workhorse.

Dexter, I think Kabar makes a decent folder in the Extreme Folder series in D2 steel. This one should be good as well. I wonder if it has Bob's dual liner lock on it? I wish they would make one of Bob's trapper folders. I have wanted one of those for a while now. I saw one of these for sale already on the for sale forums.

I own one of the D2 folders from Ka Bar and I agree that it is overall a rather good little folder! It has its faults but nothing to ruin a pocket knife, the liner lock up is first rate as well. For the D2 steel alone this knife is well worth it. After seeing this new model Thorn I will get one of those as well!

Any suggestions on how long it would take to sharpen the top edge with a sharpmaker?;)

". The leaf-lock and clip are 420J2, a high-carbon, stainless tool steel often used in knife construction and perfectly suited for these parts"

Oh and another thing, after looking at the link, since when is 420J2 a 'high carbon' 'stainless tool steel'?

Come on A.G. ! Less of the tripe and hype.

A Good looking knife. The quality of the materials used is high and the price seems very reasonable.

I also am not really a fan of the dagger style blade, but this one looks like something I would be quite happy with.

Thanks for the link, I always love to see the new stuff that is coming out.

I've handled Bob's Folding Dagger at a couple of knife shows & like the design a lot. Maybe I'm nitpicking but I would have really preferred if Kabar had produced a slightly larger version. If it had a 3 7/8" blade, just under the legal limit in NY, I'd already own one.

The over 3" blade rules it out for me. I like the clean, modern look of it, however.

Ed - you must be talking of his Tab-Stop feature? I don't know if the KABAR one does, though in A.G.'s description it doesn't make any mention of it at all. It's probably just a regular round stop pin but then again, I could be wrong (hopefully I am ;) )

I really dig the look of the custom Folding Dagger but I don't plan on getting one. The price for the KABAR version, however, is justifiable :)

I now carry a Dozier T-1 Trapper. This is a heavy duty liner lock with a 'Dozier' sharp blade. I am going to call Linda and order the real thing(dagger) from Bob. The Kabar may look like a Dozier but I guarantee, it will not be as sturdy as a real Dozier! I for one, will pay for the real thing. -Dick
