I was drawn to the blade shape and the thumb hole. Reminds me of my Buck Strider, but as a frame lock, mebbe it won't fail as easily as the Buck. Tip down carry, too. I always thought of Kabar products as USA made, but evidently not. It's Taiwanese, but then they are fighting off the Red Menace... :D

Anybody have one? Impressions? I like beefy folders, and I haven't tried a framelock yet. Hmmm...

First time I've seen it; thanks for the link.

Nice looking knife but I'll want to see street price.
85 bucks list for a Taiwanese AUS8A knife is very high IMO.
Framelock or otherwise.

I had one for a day, wasn't too impressed with it. I had issues with the placement of the hole relative to the pointy portion of the finger guard. Too much of that guard occludes too much of the hole when the blade is being opened. The first time I opened it, that pointy part of the guard dug underneath my thumbnail, giving it a very unfavorable first impression. Even afterwards, however, I tried my best to like it, but there were too many things I didn't like. It is awfully wide for a folder its size, the clip is quite small, and I wasn't impressed with the finish. It does, however, have good ergos when fully opened, and the action and lock up are smooth and solid, respectively.

Thanks for the link, might not be a bad pickup. You can never have too many framelocks

Hey Boing, I got one 2 week's ago and I love it but I've got to agree with S.C. on the opening issues. The tumb hole is not perfect but you get the hang of it after awhile...I think the ergo is great, the handle feels good and safe in the hand but it coulb be thicker to my like. Overall I really like this blade and compared to my Spyderco Captain it's way better for and EDC...cheers Treg!!!

Thanks for the link, those pics really show how wide the little bugger is. Between my Manix and D'Allara, I pretty much write off use of my pocket for carrying my EDC. I can see how the finger guard might be a problem on opening. I dunno...I might give it a whirl...still plenty of room in the "retired" drawer. Thanks for the input, guys.

Slightly off topic, but does anyone know about the 'Ka-bar' name? Their web site says the evidence points to a letter written by a hunter who apparently barely spoke English. The hunter had fought off and killed a bear ('ka-bar') with his knife.

I heard a theory that sounded much more plausible to me, that the Ka-bar knife was issued with the Browning Automatic rifle (BAR), which did not have provision for a bayonet. So Ka-bar was an abbreviation for 'Knife Accessory, Browning Automatic Rifle.' I heard this several years ago from Bryan Suits, a local radio host (now on KFI in LA) who is an officer in the Army Reserve.

I find it interesting that no one seems to know for sure the origin of a name that goes back less than 100 years, and is one of the most famous knives in U.S. history.

I agree with everyone on the the thumb-hole issue. After opening it a mere five times to try it out, my thumb was hurtin' for more than an hour afterward! the action was smooth and the lockup was good, but the ergos weren't so hot for me...the profile was good, but the steel was too angular on the sides and bit into my hand. I wanted to like the knife, I really did, but it just didn't do it for me.
