I was outside jsut screwing around throwing my Bushman and Kabar into the ground when I got interested in throwing them into a tree. My Bushman stuck 6 out of 10 times but my Kabar bent on the first throw. And boy did it bend. The tang bent about an inch into the leather. Now tell me that doesn't suck. You think it's under warranty anyway.

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get me.

The fine print unsually say "throwing voids the warrenty". The Ka Bar's tang is not very hard and it is an easy knife to bend.

It would be best to ask them.

I never had any problems with my Ka-Bar like you describe. I would think that the tang would snap before it bent as much as you implied.

Yeah, I figured it would void the warranty but hey if so I'll cut the handle off and straighten the tang in a vise then make a knew handle. I'm just glad I wasn't relying on it during a survival situation or in combat (another kind of survival sit). My Bushman I continued throwing into the tree (hey it has an awesome warranty) and wedging it out every which way no problems. Then I put it on an old shovel handle and man that thing flys like a dream. Thanks Mykl

The K-Bar saved my hide at least once long ago and far away. I admit a certain fond bias for anything or anyone who does that.

You're right; the k-bar blade may not be the toughest is the world, but it worked when I needed it.

We were taught that the most likely outcome of throwing your knife was the the BG would pick it up an stick it in your A**

Check out the tests which included a K-bar. Address is from Cliff Stamp http://www.tacticalforums.com/ubb/Forum7/HTML/000323.html

Yes, but are you paranoid enough??

Deaf,
Ok I understand you there in fact that's why I bought it. I figured it would be the toughest knife I could find well, no my old hickory performed better in the same sit. In fact in stuck repetively. Still, I know the history of the Kabar and that I will never forget.

Mykl:

You don't have to cut off the handle to straighten out the tang. Just take a nail or something similar, punch out the pin in the butt cap, remove the washers one by one, then straighten the tang, replace the washers and put the cap back on.

Does anyone know if the Next Generation models have corrected the "weaknesses" of the original Ka-Bar?

"I am not, really."

I know I Could just do that but I may not want to leave the leather as the handle material. Oh well I'll still do it just in case I change my mind.
