Looking for a solid, all purpose camp knife. THinking the KaBar, or Gerber LMFII. Criteria is simple, large. must have a guard, good size pommel. under $90 or so. any suggestions.

I like my Kabar USMC for a camp knife. Its not the toughest offering out there but is quite sturdy. some others to look at would be the Becker line by KaBar, or the ESEE knives, but they don't have hammer pommels. Rock Creek knives have some models that fit what you're looking for as well I think.

Kabar Becker BK7 or BK9 would be great. The BK2 is nice too but if you are looking for something to split some wood with the BK7 or BK9 would serve you best.

I'm loving my CAMPANION! They even named it for you to keep it simple! :D  It is a little short for large wood processing, but it's amazing how well it chops (choke back on the handle for a "longer" knife. It's 1/4" thick, so no prob on the battoning, and it's a tank. So I vote for a Case burnt stag canoe slip joint... or the BK-2 Campanion! Happy hunting!

Becker BK2, BK5, BK7, BK9---can't go wrong with any of them. HD cutting insruments they are.

Get a mora.

Kidding, Becker 2, or 7. Mora's are great though.

LMF II, Becker lineup, and the original Kabar knives all get a thumbs up from me. Moras too!

my USMC KA-BAR holds a special place in my heart. and the US military still uses it today. esee's and beckers are the best production knives on the market. also take a look at ontario they are 3rd best. i wont tell you which one is #1 cause i dont want to start an argument, however the best one has an e in it. (smile face)
