For medium duty chopper/camp knife which is the better choice? Anyone here handled both?

The raider has a larger, wider blade with more weight toward the tip, it's heavier and it has a thicker blade/tang. I'm sure it would be the better chopper. You can find videos of both of these knives chopping on youtube.

I don't have either one right now. I did have a Marine Raider at one time. I do currently have a Kabar Cutlass which has the same handle as the Kabar Heavy Bowie. The Marine Raider handle is better, IMO. As for out of the box cutting, most people do a LOT of work on the Marine Raider blade to make it cut well. It's kind of thick at the edge, and while it's a durable edge, cutting suffers. The Heavy Bowie that I handled in the past seemed to have a thinner edge out of the box, so if you want to open the box and go to work, the Kabar Heavy Bowie would probably be a better choice.

i recommend Ontario gen II sp 50 great chopper, 9 inches blade made off 5160 steel > cold steel recon scout
